RE: https://eventespresso.com/topic/add-text-to-top-of-events-listing-page-more-info-please/

I’m really confused here. I don’t know how changing the archive.php of the theme will solve this issue.

I have a page, /events-ticketing/, where the EE4 shortcode is placed and it’s been working fine. We’re using the Multiple Events add-on.

I need to add a text paragraph at the top of the page — even a widget will do — of directions for the viewers.

However, once I add the event slug to set the event listings URL in the Events -> Templates settings, my theme (Builder Summit from iThemes) apparently no longer controls the layout of the page. The page elements are still present but I can no longer use the theme’s layout capabilities to add text or a widget to the page itself, for instance. I’ve tried to change the layout in several ways and whatever I change doesn’t appear.

Looking at the page in the WordPress editor, the text I want is clearly there, but it doesn’t appear on the live page; only the events list does. Adding a widget is the same.

Are there any alternatives to using this event slug and event listings URL setting?

Thank you!

Hi Jan,

If that is a WordPress page that you created through your WP dashboard, then you should be able to edit it and add your messaging there (above the shortcode) and then save changes.

Lorenzo, that’s exactly what I tried to do and it won’t work. The text is above the shortcode on the page I created in WordPress. No matter what I do, it will not appear on the live page.

Okay, one more question. Could you confirm that the page that you created has a different slug that your default events listings page?

For example, when you first install Event Espresso, then it will use a virtual WordPress page called /events/. If you change that to the new slug through the template settings and then created a new WordPress page with the same slug, then then won’t work as the virtual page is already using that slug.

There are options either way but it would be helpful to know if that is what occurred so we can explain how to get that information added.

Yes, they had the same slug! I thought they had to have matching slugs. Once I changed that, the page was back to “normal.” I knew it had to be something simple that I was missing. As long as the plugin will continue to work with that virtual page setting, I’ll be happy.

Thank you, Lorenzo!
