Hi Brian,

1) I am going to be doing a small makeover to the site and want to make sure everything is working be I bring down my live site. What problems would there be if I setup a subdomain on my new host and built everything out? Then when I drop my current live site, I would remove the subdomain and bring the new site up on the current www or root domain?

The potential for problems happens if you’re continuing to take in new event registrations on the original site, then expect to merge data from the subdomain site to the current live site. If no events are open for registrations while you have the two site, no problems with syncing data then.

If you’re going to be migrating data between the sites (like options and posts/pages) we recommend using the WP Migrate DB plugin to migrate the data correctly.

2) Will I have licensing problems if I try and run the two sites for a short time while I build up my new site?

You won’t have problems if you have the key on only one of the sites at at time.

3) If I run the new site with out the license key during the build, will I be able to test everything and make sure it works properly?

You’ll be able to test and use everything on the new site with one exception: You will not be able to test 1-click updates. That’s the one thing the license key is checked for.
