Hi,
I have tried to migrate events, forms, registrations, transactions etc. from an existing database to a new one, same domain. I installed EE and the add ons I am using on the new site. I moved each table that begins with wp_esp_ and wp_e_ one by one to the new database, then activated the plugins. No joy. What am I missing?

Hi there,

Your missing that many of the entities within EE are custom post types which are then coupled together using our custom tables.

EE events are use a custom post type within WordPress to allow you to use the standard ‘post’ features within WP but then we link all of the event data to that post using the ID within our custom tables.

So to copy EE from one site to another you’ll need to copy all tables and then delete the data you don’t need from the copy, copying ‘just’ the EE data isn’t easily doable currently.

That is a deal-breaker, since the new version of the site has different page content, different theme and switches over to the Elementor builder. So that would all be wiped out right?

Elementor has a really good export/import function, so what I would do in that case is create a new ‘temp’ site which is a copy of the original site, that’s a full copy of the database.

On that new site, remove all of the data you don’t want.

Plugins, themes and any data from the DB you don’t need anymore.

Copy over the plugins/themes etc you want from the new site in the temp site.

Then export the pages from your new site using elementor and import them into the temp site.

Now you’ll have a copy of the old site, with the data remove and your new pages imported.

It’ll take some admin work but that’ll get you everything moved over.

Is there a way to delete all EE data? I see that deleting the plugins doesn’t do that. Is there any way to clean it all out for a fresh start?

Sure.

Disclaimer disclaimer, this is irreversible without restoring a database backup.

Go to Event Espresso -> Maintenance -> Reset/Delete Data.

You’ll find a few options there but to delete everything use ‘Permanently Delete ALL Event Espresso Data’, EE will wipe the data and deactivate itself.

Reactivate and you’ll start as a new clean install.
