Hi

We have just subscribed again to this nice plugin. We have the EE3 Business licence.

The version what we have has many problems. It generates php errors witch slowes down the site. I would like to update to the newer version, but this plugin is still new for me, so i would like to be sure how to do.

After subscribing the plugin, i have many things to download. Is it enough to download all, (turn off the plugin), upload via ftp, open the update page of wordpress, turn on the plugin? I read in this forum that, sometimes we can lose the current events if they are still active. It would be really big problem for my client.
What do you advise me to do?

Thank you so much
Best regards

Gabor

Hi Gabor,

Before going any further, the first step is to create a Full Site Back-up which includes both the sites files and a backup of the database.

You’ll notice in the guide linked above you can do this manually or via a plugin, which ever you are comfortable with the most should work fine, just be sure before continuing on, you have this backup.

Once you have made a backup we can offer some more advice on what to do next.

Hi Tony

Thank you for your help. That was the first step to backup the database and the files :). We can move to the second step

Just to confirm, the site is currently running version EE3.1.20.p?

Can you also tell me the WordPress version the site is running too please?

Sure. EE3.1.20p and wordpress 3.9.2.

+info: our webhosting company said that: there is a coding issue with Event Espresso and an error on line 41 of Event Espresso. (I don’t know where they found it but in case I told you if it affects the next step)

Unfortunately without further details that doesn’t help, but once we get your site updated to the latest version we can investigate further if the issue remains.

If you are using custom templates ( they should be within wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates/) they will not be compatible with 3.1.36.5

The same applies to custom/modified gateways (wp-content/uploads/espresso/gateways/)

I would recommend backing up the directory wp-content/uploads/espresso/ and then renaming this to something else, such as ‘espresso-backup’

This will force EE to use the default templates/gateways within Event Espresso itself.

Then you’ll need to update Event Espresso manually, we have a guide posted here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/#update_manually

If you have ANY other EE Add-on’s they will also need to be updated. The steps are almost the same (download the latest version of the Add-on, de-activate and delete the current version, upload and activate the latest version)

Also to note, if you are planning to update to EE4 (which is a vastly different system) you’ll first need to update the site to EE3.1.36.5 so stick with EE3 for the time being.

Hi

Thank you for your help, I could update the plugin and add the new addons without any serious problem.

There was an another plugin: https/ssl etc.. I get this notification via stripe payment method: Attention: A valid SSL Certificate is required on your website in order to process payments using this gateway!

Is it do i need to recover the https plugin? Do you have newer version in the same price?

Thank you

Hi Gabor,

Do you have an SSL certificate installed? The HTTPS plugin won’t provide an SSL certificate itself it just helps with HTTPS on pages.

Also we no longer support that plugin, if you still require it please use http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-https/

Hi Dean

unfortunatelly i’m not familier with this kind of things. If I’m not mistaken, there is a service where you have to pay a lot and they’ll check your site and you get certification. How can i check if we had even ssl certificate installed? If I install again the Https espresso plugin, can i see token or any kind of information what i can use for wordpress https?

Hi,

Not quite, you can buy an SSL certificate from a lot of places, it’s even possible to get ones for free.

I am not endorsing this company, but this might help explain things http://www.thawte.com/resources/getting-started/how-ssl-works/

How can i check if we had even ssl certificate installed?

You could try this http://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html or this https://support.globalsign.com/customer/portal/articles/1231704-test-certificate-installation—ssl-certificates

If I install again the Https espresso plugin, can i see token or any kind of information what i can use for wordpress https?

I am not sure what you mean.
