Hi, This question is kind of pointed at #TonyWarwick because of this conversation we had … https://eventespresso.com/topic/email-notifiers/ I think I created an API Key with Mandrill after I signed up like you had suggested, which also completely worked by the way, so thank you again. I’m just struggling with the idea of whether I can even access or use the “MailChimp Integration” add-on now. To be very direct, I’m trying to setup a “hidden” Landing Page on my web site to grow my leads to generate more clients and business for myself. I’ve been speaking to different people about it, and one mentioned that I should go through MailChimp and ask them how I should go about A) creating my landing page B) configuring a Confirmation Page and C) connecting a “free” Top Ten List” file download once I capture my leads by having them enter their Names and Email Addresses. I’m guessing this is obviously beyond the scope of the “Mailchimp Integration” Add-on from EE, but I guess my first question is can I even use an API Key from MailChimp if I’ve already registered one with Mandrill (which by the way works perfectly ie when a new student or parent signs up for my course, the automatic email response from EE does not go to a spam folder but to an actual inbox, so the auto response email is not lost.) I think I understand correctly that the job of the MailChimp Integration add-on is to capture emails from students and parents who sign up for my course and store them in a nice repository. Can I still access this with a MailChimp API Key? And should I simply go ahead and enter that API Key? I ask because I’m afraid it might interfere with the Mandrill API Key. Does that make sense? I know my thoughts are a little scattered, but could someone please provide a few answers for me to clear up the fog. I’d really appreciate it, thanks! Pete

Hi Pete, Regarding using Mailchimp whilst using Mandril, you should not have any issues. Mailchimp as you say is basically used to collect a list of subscribers which allows you to send ‘campaigns’ to those lists. Mandril does not create lists, it effectively just acts as your mail server, sending out emails when told to do so, the beauty of the services is the extras it provides along with that, (take a look at some of the Mandril reports to see what I’m referring to – you’ll find much more info than a standard mail server) Mandril is actually a part of Mailchimp. So you may have you registrations on one list, and subscribers from ‘landing page’ on another list, I would recommend separating them either on separate lists, or Groups, just so you can email them different campaigns if you choose to at a later date. Edit – little more specific to your questions.
Yes you can, you include the API key within the Mailchimp integration Add-on. For your landing page you will likely just be displaying a Sign up form, if so you don’t need an api key for that just include the for generated from Mailchimp itself. |
