Hi there,
So when I signed up for EE4, I didn’t realize a third-party provider would be required, but soon learned about Mandrill/MailChimp. Now, after taking ~5 months to go through their 2000 free emails, we’ve had to subscribe to their $18/month 25,000 email-per-month plan.
The issue is that our website only maybe generates 300 or so emails each month so I have a really hard time justifying $18/month just for that. Can you suggest an easy-to-implement alternative? I saw the list of other providers and went to each of their websites, but nobody seems to specialize in fairly low traffic like us.
Spending $18 a month extra is a drag! Any advice?

It’s not required but it is recommended.
The reason for that is most web hosts are not mail hosts (although they will tell you otherwise), they provide a mail server as a convenience and it is shared across all users on your server/cluster.
The mail server may be setup incorrectly/poorly and/or be very restrictive on what it allows to send (to try and prevent the mailservers IP from being blacklisted but it rarely works well).

What about sendinblue? They have a 300 emails per day tier for free:
