Limit registrations for events with multiple tickets and sessions

I’m using EE4.

I have a community event that has 2 ticket types: residents, non-residents. The event is a kids art class that happens each day for a week (5 datetimes). You should be able to buy 1 ticket for the class that runs for a week (once per day)

I’ve setup the event with 5 datetimes (one for each day of the class) and 2 tickets (residents-$23 and non-residents-$28). My issue is that there is a total registration limit of 10, but can’t find how to set the total limit in that way. I can only set a limit on each datetime or each ticket type. Right now each datetime has no limit set and each ticket type limit is set to 10. I’m guessing this would allow 20 registrations. I need total limit to be 10 – and not necessarily a limit on number of resident tickets vs non-resident tickets.

All the support I find refer to using datetimes in tandem – but never when there is an event where it include multiple datetimes.

How do I only allow 10 registrations?

Hi Stephen,

Could you capture a screenshot of the datetimes and tickets area from the event editor and then share a link here?

Here is how to share a screenshot with us:

Thanks for the screenshot.

It looks like you have those two ticket options with 10 spaces each so if someone purchases one of them, then they will be able to attend the four dates that you created.

Was that what you were wanting to setup?

The maximum ticket options in the top right area of the event editor limits the number of ticket options that can be registered for an once in a single transaction. For example, if that option was set to 3, then a registrant/attendee could select up to 3 ticket options and would then need to complete registration checkout.

I want to allow only 10 tickets total to be sold – but need to have the option for people to select whether they are resident or non-resident, hence both ticket types.

Right now there are 20 tickets available, but I need only 10 – and I don’t want to have to set a limit per ticket type since that doesn’t make sense for my needs.

It’s a simple need, which makes me think I’m just missing something.

The total ticket limit needs to be set outside of any individual ticket type, to avoid limiting each type of ticket but I don’t see a way.

Alright, in that case, move the limits from the ticket options to the individual datetimes (i.e. remove 10 from the resident and non-registrant tickets and then add 10 to the limit for each datetime) and then save changes.

If I understand your setup correctly, a single ticket provides access to the four datetimes so each successful registration would reduce the quantity available for the four datetimes by one.

You are correct, a single ticket provides access to the four datetimes.

So setting a limit of 10 on each session wouldn’t allow 40 registrations? Is that because of my setup of both tickets having access to all datetimes?

Not in your case, no.

Is that because of my setup of both tickets having access to all datetimes?

Yes.

When a user purchases on of those tickets the sold value for each of the datetimes assigned to the ticket will be increased by 1 (per ticket)

So if you set a limit of 10 on all of those datetimes you can only sell 10 tickets from either of those tickets you have available, either 10 of a single ticket or mixture of both.

You can test this by adding a registration using one of those tickets, if you set the registration status to Approved and refresh the event editor you’ll see the sold value on all of the datetimes will be 1.

Then change the status of that registration to cancelled and recheck, they should all be 0 again. (Your ticket ‘Regs’ value will then show 1, but sold should be 0)
