Hi, I’m extremely frustrated. I just need to change 4 text strings on the registration pages. I have found the Poedit instructions.

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-change-wording-with-poedit/

Followed them to the book and I cannot get the text to change. The generated .mo file has the changes in it. I have uploaded the .po file. I have changed my wp.config file as instructed. Still nothing. I have looked at other threads for support using Poedit and it seems that I’m doing every thing correctly.

In short, I downloaded the latest .po and .pot file from the repository. Opened the .po file in Poedit, found my text strings and changed them. Saved my changes, uploaded my .po, .mo and .pot file to wp-content/uploads/espresso/languages and updated the wp-config file in the root of WP to define(‘WPLANG’, ‘en_US’);

Is there something I’m missing here? Please help. Thank you.

FYI… here is my generated .mo file.

Hi Hazel,

Remove the POT file it shouldn’t be needed, just the PO and MO files are sufficient.

The only other thing is to make sure the PO and MO files were downloaded correctly to begin with, if not the data will be corrupt and it will fail silently (I lost two hours of my life before I learned that one!)

In the Github repository:

To download the PO file – left click the link on the main page and then right click the Raw button in the top right of the page that comes up and save as.

To download the MO file – left click the link on the main page, and then left click the View Raw text link in the middle of the page that comes up.

If you are really struggling, you may want to consider using this function which drops into your themes functions.php file http://www.viper007bond.com/2011/07/13/changing-core-wordpress-strings/

That seem to do it. I guess I had a corrupted .po file.

Thank you so much. I didn’t think that it should be that hard.

Hi Hazel,

Glad you got it working in the end and yes I find the language systems overly complex too, but really they are the best way to change text in themes/plugins.
