Issues with plugin – old event reminder emails sending to members

I am from a digital agency supporting a client, Home House with their online events calendar. We are unfortunately experiencing a number of issues after having installed the Event Espresso plugin – I hope you are able to help resolve them.

Please see details below:
We, as Home House’s website development team, added the following plugin: Event Espresso – Automated Upcoming Event Notification (EE 4.9.44+) which was covered in an annual Event Espresso fee.
The plugin was uploaded and enabled by a front-end developer and then started to send sporadic emails to members for old events and events that had passed.
In an attempt to stop this, we deactivated the plugin yet it is still sending to members who attended events from months ago.
We are confused by this as, according to a developer, the send queue does not appear to have anything in it.
Are you able to provide some support on how to resolve the issue?

It’s imperative we get to the bottom of this and fix it as soon as possible as it is causing understandable frustration on both the members’ and client’s behalf.

Hi there,

First, which emails are sending?

You mentioned this happened when you installed the Automated Upcoming Event Notification add-on (AUEN for short) so is it the Upcoming Event/Datetime Reminder emails that are sending or other emails?

I’m guessing by this:

In an attempt to stop this, we deactivated the plugin yet it is still sending to members who attended events from months ago.

It is not the AUEN add-on emails that are sending as they couldn’t once the add-on was disabled, unless they’ve already been triggered and are sitting in your mailserver queue, not the EE messages queue, further downstream from that?

Are you using any kind of transactional email service? (PostMark, Mandrill, SendGrid to name a few)

If you go to Event Espresso -> Messages -> message activity.

Can you see these ‘new’ emails listed as sent there?

Hi Tony,

Many thanks for this.

I’ve taken a look as advised and can see there are no longer any messages in the send queue within “message activity” and all those that have been sent have been registration confirmation rather than event reminders. On our end, I’ve had a developer confirm there are no messages sitting on our server in the send queue. We’re therefore wondering if now the issue has been resolved

Could you let me know whether this plugin often causes these sorts of problems?
