Hello
I am running some events which only take Paypal – a lot of people are getting an email that payment failed and when i check the payment details in EE i see
IPN Validation failed! Paypal responded with ‘WP Error. Code: “http_request_failed”, Message: “cURL error 6: Couldn’t resolve host ‘www.paypal.com'”, Data: “”‘

however when i check the paypal account, payment has been received – this is causing some people to pay twice

any ideas re this issue please?
thanks
Sue

Hi Sue,

You can contact your host and ask them to upgrade your server so it supports TLS 1.2 by default. There’s also some other new security specifications that PayPal requires of your server, and they are listed here:

So i checked with my ISP and the server is using TLS 1.2 – i also installed an SSL certificate on the site – but still having issues where the user has registered for an event and paid and then they get a message saying not paid – and when i check their registration its showing as not paid – even tho they have.
any ideas welcome as its a bit frustrating
thanks Sue

Have you given the above error to you host? If so what did they say?

The error basically means that your server could not find the IP address for the host ‘www.paypal.com’ to be used for the connection. Either your hosts firewall is causing problems or their DNS server is overloaded.

If your using TLS1.2 and still get the same error if you check the logs then your hosts needs to fix this as its most likely an issue server side.

Have them test a curl request to PayPal from your server and confirm they can connect, it’s also possible that PayPal have blocked the servers IP address (you would need to contact PayPal and provide them with the servers IP to confirm).

Have you contacted PayPal and provided them with your servers IP to see if they or the ISP blocked the servers IP address?
