Hi everyone.
We have successfully set up a site with paypal and IPN has been working fine however we have recently noticed one payment from paypal which did not update the site. I have confirmed paypal sent an ipn which has been logged in uploads/logs and also shows complete, however the attendee was never updated. This has only happened twice but wanted to see what possible reasons there could be for not updating

I can forward the log if necessary?

Thanks

again

Hi Wayne,

Did the attendee not update on the front end or in the admin or both?

The main reason for it occurring is a slow response from PayPal. We have tried to write our code ina way that minimizes this issue, but it doesn’t always manage it. You could also try the simplified transaction template found here: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-set-up-paypal-ipn/#troubleshooting

Hi Dean thanks for your quick response. Everything seems to have gone through ok and to be honest we have probably done over 800 tickets without any issues recently. Some at the start but due to a curl server issue our end. It just seems this one transaction. If we are expecting a high volume of traffic shortly is it best to use the simple template just incase?

If the ipn is delayed by paypal shouldn’t it resend later? We do have the ipn log which was received as completed

value = 5UC08671BM182102S
Success Setting post fields: mc_gross=63.50&protection_eligibility=Eligible&address_status=confirmed etc etc

I am assuming that if it was logged, then paypal sent the ipn but the transaction code could not updated it?

Hi Wayne,

I would advise applying the simple transactions template. The transactions page is not a page your visitors should normally visit/see so it does no harm in adding it.

If the ipn is delayed by paypal shouldn’t it resend later? We do have the ipn log which was received as completed

It should do yes. When the IPN is delayed generally what happens is the user will be directed back to the Thank-you page and see the registration is ‘incomplete’, if they then refresh the page a little later (the IPN has now been received) the registration will show Complete.

If the registration is still showing as incomplete a while after (say over 24hrs), then it is likely another issue rather than a delayed IPN.

We would need to see the full IPN message for that registration to see if there are any errors.

Hi Tony
im panicking a little. I have downloaded the attendee list, and have filtered the incomplete. There are 295 incompletes and out of those 20 have the type: paypal. all tickets are sold via paypal unless given for free with a code. I assumed that if an attendee put in there details and submitted to paypal but did not pay it would have type paypal, incomplete. I have checked incomplete with type:blank email addresses in paypal and the are payment transactions in the paypal account, which means 295 potential incompletes with no tickets sent and the show starts on the 3rd of septmeber

Where does the paypal type come from?
how do I differentiate between incomplete and no ipn update?

Can i email the excel doc.

Many Thanks

Wayne

hi guys
Sorry I have gone through and it looks like lots of people went to buy and decided against it then bought the following week, hence multiple attendee names with the sam e email address logged into paypal. So far i have narrowed it down to 20 ipn messages that did not update, so have now added the simple version and keeping an eye on it

Hi,

Please monitor the payment status for a day or so and then share an update to your support post here:

https://eventespresso.com/topic/ipn-logged-but-not-updating/

Also, if you are running a plugin like Bad Behavior, then please try temporarily disabling it as it may be blocking the IPN messages from PayPal.

Thanks

Lorenzo
