Hello. I am running version 4.6 for the barcode scanner, running EE 4.9.65.p
I have a Socket Mobile scanner. I have paired the scanner with my ipad and it works great, scans the test scans, etc. I cannot scan any of my tickets from Event ESpresso – either through the app or by opening the site and scanning. I need to be able to do this as the ipad is our main PS System. Thank you for your help.

Hi,

May I ask which type of coding is on the ticket? QR code or Barcode? If barcode, which type? If you’re not sure which type you can check the shortcodes in the ticket template in Event Espresso > Messages > Default Message Templates.

Also, are you scanning from a printed ticket or from a ticket that’s displayed on a screen?

The ticket has both barcode and QR code. and I was scanning from a printed but the scanner can do either. Here is a link to the ticket example http://bit.ly/2LxdWhL

It sounds like the input field isn’t being selected before you do the scan.

Before you do the scan, can you tap the input field on the Barcode scanner page on the device, then scan the ticket?

I chose the event the ticket is for, put in continuous scanning, and then tried to scan.

Does the scanner itself normally acknowledge the scan? As in does it normally beep or flash an led to show the barcode scanned?

If so, is that happening with the EE barcodes (including the QRs)?

I’m wondering if the scanner is working as expected but the data isn’t passed to the app, or if the barcodes simply aren’t scanning.

yes it usually acknowledges the scan. There is an app for the scanner to test it and it seems to be working for their tests. It’s not scanning the EE barcodes.I tried a couple different browsers with EE open to see if that was the problem.

Ignoring EE completely for a second (with the exception of the barcodes)

If you manually scan a ‘working’ barcode with the scanner it beeps? (outside of any app, just testing to see if the reader can scan a barcode).

If you then try to manually scan an EE barcode and it doesn’t beep? If so then whether or not you are signed into the iPad, PC, browser etc won’t matter as the scanner can’t read the barcode to send it to whatever you are signed into.

So from the above, it sounds like the barcode reader isn’t even scanning the barcode, correct? It may be set to a different mode than the EE barcodes, but before going down that route you need to confirm that’s the problem.

Yes, I can scan any barcode and it beeps and scans. and no scanning or beeping with the EE barcode. so, I guess that’s part of the issue then? any random barcode on anything I have in the office is scanning except the EE barcodes…

Hi,

Do you happen to know the barcode type of any of the random barcodes you have in the office? There are different types and maybe your scanner is configured to scan only specific types.

The barcode types that Event Espresso supports are:

datamatrix
code128
code93
code39

You’ll find an example of each type on this example ticket:

http://dev-moonseed.pantheonsite.io/?ee=msg_url_trigger&snd_msgr=html&gen_msgr=html&message_type=ticketing&context=registrant&token=1-a757f26d5763ac058b619a5391d8384d&GRP_ID=15&id=0

Does your scanner scan any of the codes on the example ticket?

it will scan the code 39 and the code 128

OK, that’s good. So you’ll need to go in to Event Espresso > Messages > Default Message Templates and edit your ticket template to include:

[BARCODE_* w=1 h=70 fsize=18 bgcolor=#ffffff color=#000000 output_type=bmp type=code39]

and/or

[BARCODE_* w=1 h=70 fsize=18 bgcolor=#ffffff color=#000000 output_type=bmp type=code128]

Depending on the scanner your using it may also have the option to enable other modes within the scanner itself, this is usually done using a ‘config’ barcode that comes with the scanner and then you can scan additional barcodes from the manual to change the config of the scanner itself.

The default barcodes use code93, so if you enable code93 on your scanner (if its available on the scanner itself) it should then scan all of them without a problem.

However, note that each barcode scanner is different, it may or may not support multiple modes, it may or may not support code93 and so on. The way in which you enable/disable modes may be completely different to how I mentioned, its just the way it was done with the scanners I’ve had so you’ll need to read the manual for the scanner you have and see how you enable code93 if thats the route you would like to take.

Changing the barcodes EE generates as Josh mentioned is another option, but you’ve already given out the tickets with the barcodes on they will be code93 so enabling that within the scanner may then be a better option.

I did a quick google search (remember I don’t know your specific scanner model) and found some PDF’s from socketmobile which shows your scanner likely uses command barcodes as I mentioned above (I called them config barcodes).

For example, if you have a 7Qi, 7Xi, D750

You can use this PDF – https://www.socketmobile.com/docs/default-source/series-7/command-barcode-sheet-2d.pdf?sfvrsn=fa478dcb_0

Search (CTFL+F) for ‘code 93’ and you’ll find a barcode that can enable/disable that code on the scanner – http://take.ms/kU7dx

WARNING – make sure you use the correct PDF for the model you have, if your scanner is not one of the ones I listed, do not scan the above barcodes hoping it will work as it may enabled/disable unexpected features on your scanner.
