intercepting events posts and accessing event information

Hi.

I’m trying to intercept the espresso_events posts(using the ‘save_post’ action), and access the EE_Event property so that I can add the event’s venue information in the post’s metadata. But it seems the EE_Event property of the post intercepted by my hook handler function is an empty string, not an object. How can I do what I want(i.e. add meta data about the event to the espresso_events posts when they are published/updated)?
