Hi, |
Hi, Yes, the plugins will function exactly, the same way on a test server, if that’s what you’re asking. |

Yes, but will I be able to use the key on the test server and the then on the live site after? |
The key is used for updates and support so on your test server just leave the key field blank and update the EE plugins manually, they will function exactly as they would with the key. To answer your question, yes, you could use the key on the test server but the key will then be assigned to that domain and require a reset before it will work on the ‘live’ site. You can only have the key on one site at a time or it will flag as invalid so then you need to request a reset, remove the key from the test server, wait for the reset, assigned the key to the live site…. when all you need to do is not set the key on the test site to avoid the above. |

I am hoping that the reset will not take long. I went ahead and added it to the test server. I am hoping I will be able to switch with no issues. I received an email from one of the team members from EE, stating that it would be ok to do this. Thank you. |
Reset requests are reviewed by the support team so they normally take between 1-24 hours Monday to Friday. Reset made on the weekend will usually go through on Monday.
As mentioned above, as long as you remove the key from the ‘dev’ site, then request the reset you should have no issues. We don’t manually assign your domain to your key, its done automatically when your site checks in with our servers so as long as there is not 2 sites doing so it will work just fine.
Again, its fine to do, it just means you have more steps to do on your end which switching domains (removing the key etc) which is why we recommend you don’t add the key to development sites and just update manually on those. |
