We have many existing event pages on our website that are all nestled under the parent page /events/. When I installed eventespresso, it made all of those pages invisible. I had to delete the plug-in and then set the pages to private, publish, and then reset them to public and re-publish them in order to restore our site.

Is there a way to use your plug-in without disabling all of my existing pages?

Hi there,

As you’ve found, by default Event Espresso events use the /events/ slug which means when you go to /events/{some-slug} then WordPress will look for EE events of that slug.

We need a slug for EE events, but we have an option for you to change it from within Event Espresso.

Activate the plugin and go to Event Espresso -> Events -> Templates (Tab across the top)

Under ‘Event List Pages’ you’ll see the ‘Event Slug’ option.

Change that to something other than ‘events’ and save.

What you use here is up to you with the exception that you can’t use the singular ‘event’, however, whatever used will be your default EE event listing and will show for each event:

domain.com/{event-slug}/{single-event-slug}

example.com/workshops/tonys-wood-working-workshop

Once you’ve changed that, flush your permalink by going to:

Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks.

Simply opening the page should flush the permalinks but if you want, make no changes and just hit save. (Side note, flushing your permalinks should also have fixed your /events/ output after your de-activated previously).

Now check that you /events/ output works as you expect it to, also check the your /{event-slug}/ also works.
