Installing 3.2 alpha clarification

I read the disclaimer that 3.2 is not to be installed on top of 3.1. That being said, do you see a problem with first removing all of the event espresso tables from the database and then installing 3.2? I am wanting to run 3.2 on an old wordpress install and have no plans of starting from scratch. Thoughts?

Thanks!

It might be fine. If theres nothing in the database about EE 3.1 then I can’t see how it would react badly with 3.2 dropped on it.

That being said, it’s purely at your own risk, we haven’t tested it being installed that way. 3.2 is purely for testing purposes and not ready for live sites.

As per Chris in this thread https://eventespresso.com/topic/event-espresso-3-2-a-1/

You shouldn’t be installing 3.2 on top of 3.1.25 anyway (in fact, I am
uploading a version today that displays a warning and doesn’t let you
use the plugin if you’re trying to use it on a site that previously
had Event Espresso installed). As stated above, 3.2 does not have any
of the update scripts to convert events from 3.1.x to use in 3.2 and
could actually damage your 3.1.x installation. This is why we’ve made
it part of the form to download that you acknowledge that you will use
it on a fresh installation.

Thanks Dean!

I appreciate you getting back with me. I was planning on waiting for the release of the first stable verion of 3.2. That being said, do you know how the plan for how all of the 3.1 users will be able to upgrade to 3.2? Will everyone need to create a fresh install of wordrpress? Will the 3.1 version continue to be supported for all of the people who can’t upgrade?

The plan is to run a script that will convert the data from 3.1 to work with 3.2 for existing installations when they’re upgraded. It hasn’t been built yet, but will be part of the 3.2 release when it’s finished. So a fresh install will not be necessary.

3.1 will continue to be supported for a time after 3.2 is released, which will include security and bug fix updates.

Hi Mark,

Event Espresso 4.1 beta (which supersedes 3.2) is officially released. Asi I mentioned before, it has the migration scripts that will optionally help migrate your Event Espresso 3 data so it can be used in Event Espresso 4.

Please see our announcement for more information:
