I have been using the free version on EE but needed to add some additional features so I purchased the upgrade. I downloaded the plug – in, atttempted to install in and got a ‘
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare espresso_version() (previously declared in /data/25/3/133/131/3459620/user/3855653/htdocs/wordpress1/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/espresso.php:46) in /data/25/3/133/131/3459620/user/3855653/htdocs/wordpress1/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-free/espresso.php on line 37’
after which I could not even log into my website. This ‘fatal error…’ message came up when I typed my address into the URL. I needed to restore my website from a backed up version to even get into it. Not sure what happened, but it really makes me nervous about trying to use it again.
Please advise on what to do to install it or steps to receive a refund.

Hi Linda,

You’ll run into this issue if you have multiple versions of Event Espresso running at once. Here is how to fix this issue:

1) Login to your WordPress site with an SFTP or FTP client such as FileZilla or Cyberduck

2) Browse to this location:

wp-content/plugins

3) Rename both of the Event Espresso folders by adding a 1 to the end

4) Return to your WordPress admin and confirm you are able to login

5) Restore the names of the Event Espresso folders by removing the 1 at the end

From here you can go to WordPress admin –> Plugins and reactivate Event Espresso 4. I do want to mention that Event Espresso 3 and Event Espresso 4 are different platforms:

If you are using EE3 lite, then EE3 premium will offer similar menus and functionality. It is available from your Event Espresso account as a download.

I ended up deactivating the lite version and would just like to download the ee3 version but it doesn’t download. I can download the ee4 version, but need waiting lists, so I need the ee3 version. From my account, I can’t get that one to download onto my computer.

Hi Linda,

It should download from this list:

Could you try again?

OK, I messed around with it for a while and I think I now have it installed. We’ll see what happens from here…
Thanks for your help.

Next issue:
I am using Gym Base custom theme and the description and other parts of the form are now white screen on a white background so you cannot see the words. I can however see the *name, *address and *email and *pick an option for pricing fields, but none of the other ones. Can this be modified?

Hi Linda,

I can recommend disabling the Themeroller option in Event Espresso > Template settings. This way it will let the active WP theme’s styles show without conflicts. Alternatively, you could try one of the Themeroller options that feature a dark background color, like UI darkness.
