Information in fields on registration page gets erase if there's an error

Greetings EE Support,

We are getting quite a few complaints from users, who enter their registration information (first name, last name, address, email, etc.) only to see all the fields erase when they click Finalize. And it’s because they simply entered a telephone number incorrectly or something.

This happened to me when I was registering 3 attendees via the Admin interface. After entering each individual’s information and clicking Finalize, the form reset so I lost everything. EE4 kindly displayed an error in red indicating the phone number I copy/pasted was formatted incorrectly as “(xxx) xxx-xxxx” instead of “xxx-xxx-xxxx” or “xxxxxxxxxx”.

Some people purchase as many as 10 tickets, and spend a great deal of time meticulously typing each person’s information. So if there is a problem with one of the fields, then the form should just display an error (not reset completely forcing them to retype everything).

Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Can you create a temp event I can run some test registrations on? For me validation kicks as soon as submit is clicked so nothing is lost and I’d like to run some tests on your site without messing up your event counts.

If you create a test event, set the date to something in the future and change the status to be passworded protected, then just post a link to the event and the password here it will prevent users from registering onto it.

(Note you can mark your reply private so only EE staff can view it)

Hi Tony,

Sorry. Now that our big event of the year is over, I have time to try and figure this out.

Though I might be having another issue. I created a new event, but nothing appears when viewing the URL. The only things that appear is the event title and the word “Upcoming”. The event is published, set to public, the Display Ticket Selector toggle is set to “Yes”, the event datetime is set for June 1, 2022, and the Sale Starts and Sell Until are set to right now. I’ve tried duplicating an old event, clearing both site and browser caches, and using two different web browsers. What is really odd is… we happen to have another event that is still going on right now, and that shows up completely normal.

Any ideas? I can’t move forward with this topic until I can figure this out.

/Chris

If you wish to take a look at these two test events, here are the URLs:

https://www.shoreshdavid.org/register/ee-support-test/
https://www.shoreshdavid.org/register/ee-test-2/

Password protecting the above events is unnecessary. For the past several years we have used a plugin called “Unlist Posts & Pages”, which puts a toggle in the event editor enabling us to hide any particular event from the Event List. Then the only way for anyone to view that event is by knowing the URL. I wish EE4 had this feature, as it really comes in handy for selling tickets to private events.

Started new topic for new issue under:

Will revisit this when that one gets resolved.

Hi Chris,

I’ve just replied to your other thread on that issue, I’ll keep this one for the form validation issue just to keep it easier to follow.

I’ve ran a couple of test registrations on your current working event (feel free to delete the registration they are using my full name ‘Tony Warwick’) but when I don’t use a valid format for the phone number the form validation kicks in and wont allow me to submit the form until its fixed.

I tried this with Chrome and Firefox:

https://monosnap.com/file/utjDeMg7R0yV02G2zycxhInWybuDZr

EE won’t let me proceed until that field is valid on the front end.

I’ll test the admin separately but is there a specific setup I need to use to reproduce this on the front end?

Hi Tony,

So as not to confuse byreaders, feel free to delete or privatize my last three posts. Temp admin login is posted in the other thread so, fingers crossed, once that one is fixed then you can also test the form validation from the admin side.

Regardless of what a few users have told me about their experiences, I can confirm this issue definitely happened to me via the admin interface. Quite frustrating assisting someone with their 5+ ticket registration only to see all field erased after clicking Finalize.

/Chris

Hi there!

I tested the manual registration through the Dashboard using the USA Phone number field, but the fields are not empty.

Could you tell me if there is a specific set up to reproduce this? Also, could you go to Dashboard > Event Espresso > Help & Support > and share a screenshot of the Important Information section?
