Hi, When using EE3 I was often wanting to send a bulk reminder email to people who had registered for an event but not yet paid, but was unable to do so. I was pleased then to see the Newsletter function in EE4, to batch select registrants and send them an email. I was disappointed though to see the lack of a shortcode for either the ticket link or the event in the shortcode list for the content of the newsletter, and now I am confused as in the following forum post Josh suggests that such links can be included in newsletters: https://eventespresso.com/topic/ee3-to-ee4-upgrade-path-2/ Could someone please explain what’s possible. Thanks, Nick |

Hi Nick, here is an example of a message that you could use in the batch email / newsletter option for Event Espresso 4:
In the example above, [RECIPIENT_TICKET_URL] will provide a link to their ticket link. Thanks — |

Thanks Lorenzo. That works fine. It looks like I can’t include event information though. Is this correct? Thanks, Nick |

Hi Nick, you can create a custom template via the messages system (click on the custom button for the newsletter message type) and then use that there. The example that I shared earlier was replacing the default messaging when the global template is selected in the modal window. Thanks — |

Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t see any event shortcodes when trying to create a custom newsletter template. |

Available shortcodes for the newsletter message type are shown under the newsletter_content area of the screen (right side): http://cl.ly/image/0Q1R0U3c2D45 If you are trying to add event-specific information like event datetimes, then that isn’t currently available. — |

Yes, I saw that list – it seems to be the same list as the one that shows when sending out batch emails from the registration page. There’s nothing there that relates to events, e.g. [EVENT_NAME], [EVENT_LIST], etc. I guess I will just have to include these manually each time. Correct? Any reason why these shortcodes aren’t included for newsletters? They would be helpful for my purposes! |
|
Hi Nick, none of those are currently available for the newsletter message type so you would need to manually type out that information. — |

OK. I can do that, but please can I put in a vote for including them in the newsletter in future please! Thanks, Nick |

It looks like I can’t include a link to the payment page for attendees. A regular scenario for me is that I need to send an email to all attendees where payment is pending. To do so I would need to include a link to the front end payment page for the registration. Is there a way to do this in a newsletter? Thanks, Nick |

Hi Nick, I’ve added feedback to the enhancement ticket that we have for the messages system. Thanks — |

Thanks Lorenzo. In the meantime, is there a way of bulk re-sending registration emails to attendees with a pending payment status? This way I could send a newsletter to all those with a pending payment letting them know that an email with the payment link is being sent. I can’t include the link in the newsletter, but by sending two emails I can achieve the necessary aim – i.e. a prompt to make payment with the link to do so. |

Hi Nick, It is possible to bulk re-send the Pending Payment message if that will work? If you select the Registrations they you wish to resend the Registration message to, like this – http://take.ms/zgQvh Then within the bulk options, select ‘Set Registrations to Pending Payment and Notify’ – http://take.ms/OaoYu Then click Apply. That will loop through each attendee and set it to Pending Payment (even though they should be already in this case) and send the Pending Payment notification. Be sure to only select Pending Payment registrations and that you are selecting the correct setting in the dropdown before clicking Apply otherwise your registrants will receive the wrong messages. By default the Pending Payment message look like this – http://take.ms/8hFR6 The link at the bottom allows the user to pay. You could create a custom Pending Payment message with a custom message, assign it to the event, do the above and then assign the original message to the event again. That means you can just send ONE email with both your message and the link is that what you are looking for? |

Hi Nick, that should be possible by filtering the current registration view. Try going to Event Espresso –> Events. Then hover over the name of an event and click on Registrations. You’ll now be viewing a list of registrants for this event. Select the pending payment status from the dropdown above the list and click on filter: http://cl.ly/image/2L212F1U3x0x That should then show you a list of registrants that have a status of pending payment for this specific event. — |

Thanks Lorenzo and Tony. I think Tony has come up with the best workaround, i.e. creating a custom Payment Pending message, in which I can include the payment link, meaning that only one email needs to be sent. I am sending reminders for 5 different events at the same time – it looks like I will need to set the custom template for payment pending for each event independently on the event pages. Is this so? This is a reasonable workaround, but I hope you agree that it would be preferable to be able to include the payment link, and also event information, in newsletters! |

Yes, the registration will use whichever template is assigned to its event ‘at the time of (re)sending’ so you’ll need to create a custom template and assign it to all the events. Then back again when finished. |
