Impossible to add or modify Event Tickets

We have a course in our website with a lot of activity, and we have a class very often and almost all the time there is at least one registration per ticket.

We have now 39 tickets and dates in history, they can’t be removed because of the existing registration in each one of them, so they are somehow how locked down there.

But now that we want to add more tickets for upcoming classes, it is just impossible. When we hit UPDATE we receive errors like:

1- An error has occurred: The data for the “Event Wait List Settings” form, is either missing or was not submitted properly.

2- Your event is open for registration. Making changes may disrupt any transactions in progress.

And then nothing updates on the event page. I have already tried to increase the amount of tickes per event up to 100, but everything continue the same behavior.

Any ideas of what could be going on or what could help us to fix this problem?

We really need to add more dates as soon as possible for our course.

I would appreciatte a prompt response. Thanks.

Hi there,

It sounds like you are likely hitting your server’s max_input_vars limit.

That setting tells the server how many ‘inputs’ it will process on a single request before it simply ignores any remaining.

If you go to Event Espresso -> Maintenance -> System Information.

Search for ‘max input vars’ using your browser, or possibly ‘max_input_vars’

What value does it show? 1000? (That would be the default for most PHP installations).

Your host will often have a section in your control panel to change the value of max_input_vars but if not you can contact them and ask them to increase it, using a value of 2000 would allow you roughly twice as many ticket/datetimes values before you hit that value again.

If you create a new test event with just a couple of tickets, does that save as expected? Is so it likely confirms the above is the issue.

Another option for this is to duplicate your current event so you now have a ‘fresh’ copy with no registrations on it, then set up the new duplicate so it’s your ‘new’ event moving forward. Change the title and slug of the original event (include the date for example) and then set the title and slug of the duplicate to what your current event is using. In short, you are replacing your current event with the duplicate which then has no active registrations on so you can remove tickets/datetimes if needed.
