While our primary site was in development, we had an EE installation for a single conference that was taking registrations, etc. We now need to “merge/import” that installation into our main site and shut it down. We can’t just “override” the current installation, because we’ve populated the database with all of our other events.
What is the best way to handle this?

On the main site, go to WP > Tools > Export and export all posts, pages, and anything else exportable. Also make a database backup there.
Then on the temporary site, remove any unwanted posts/pages. Then go to WP > Tools Import and import the main site’s posts, pages, and anything else exportable. After verifying the temporary site, then you can use the WP Migrate DB plugin to do a database backup + migration preparation. Once that’s done the migrated database can be placed onto the main site.

Sorry, I probably needed to clarify further.
I’m not trying to migrate posts, pages, etc. This is specifically an EE question. I have an EE installation that was setup for just one single event and has transactions and registrations attached to it. It is in a multisite that will be deleted after the “merge.” The main site already has an EE installation that has hundreds of events added. Essentially, we need to take the conference event from the temp site, all of its transactions + registrations, etc, and “merge” it into the main EE site. They were on multisite, so the user references, etc will all be the same.
Manual registrations were made on the main site already as well, so we can’t just “override” one over the other. We need to “merge” the two. The conference site was there only during dev because we needed to start taking conference registrations but the main site wasn’t ready yet.

Yikes, that doesn’t seem possible. You could try taking both databases and importing them both into a third site but you’ll need be sure to manually resolve merge conflicts. This is because both sites will have registrations and related data that have exactly the same primary IDs.
