Implications of deleting events categories

Hi. In the coming academic year we’re going to be running a completely different set of courses to last year and we need new event categories as well as new events to reflect this. We don’t want a huge list of categories to select from when we know that the 15 or so categories that we used this year will not be relevant in the coming year. There doesn’t appear to be a way of ‘archiving’ an events category or in some way changing it’s status so that it is no longer available for selection by those adding new events. The only option appears to be to delete the category but won’t that have implications for the records of all of those events we ran this year?

Any advice would be gratefully received. (we’re using EE4)

Hi,

When you delete an event category, it will actually have no implications for the records of the events that were assigned to that category. The reason is because categories are only a taxonomy, or way of organizing/classification. The only change to the event will be it will no longer be assigned to that category.
