Husband/Wife Registration

I am selling tickets to a class on my site. The cost of the class will be $100 per person or $100 per husband/wife signup. I also need to use a promo code with the classes. How is the best way to accomplish this task without double charging the couple and also making sure both people (husband/wife) get registered and both get a ticket to the event?

Hello Audrea,

Great question. They best way to do this would be with the Multiple Event Registration add-on. You can create an event for each type of ticket, one for single person and one for the husband/wife ticket. Then you can paste shortcodes in the event like this:

Husband/Wife Combo $100: [ESPRESSO_CART_LINK event_id=”1″ anchor=”Add To Cart”]
Single Ticket $100: [ESPRESSO_CART_LINK event_id=”2″ anchor=”Add To Cart”]

It will look something like this:

Ok, so if I understand correctly, I will have to create 2 different events? Or just copy and past the above code into the one event? Sorry, I am new to this and honestly, I wish the documentation had more details with examples for those of us that don’t just automatically know… I read all the add-on features and what EE could do, so I purchased it. I honestly never knew that I would have to do this much work and short-code insertion to get it to do what the add-on’s allow it to do. Maybe I’m just frustrated right now but I’m feeling like I bought a high priced plugin that won’t do what it says it will without extensive code knowledge. I apologize for letting that out on you Jonathan, because you are trying to help but I’ve spent the last week working on this plugin and I feel I have gotten nowhere. 1 week on 1 plugin! And it’s still not setup correctly…

Hello Audrea,

I am sorry for your troubles. I understand it can get overwhelming with all of the features and add-ons. About the documentation; we are working on a daily basis to add more and better documentation.

Yes. Since we currently do not have functionality to create registration caps per ticket type, you will need to create possibly three events. Then you will set the Event Options like so: http://ee-screenshots.s3.amazonaws.com/2012/01/display-registration-form.png

Create one event that will be your main event.
Create one event for the male ticket type, setting the desired attendee limit.
Create another event for the female ticket type, setting the desired attendee limit.

Then you will paste shortcodes like this in your main event, replacing the male_event_id and female_event_id with the correct if of your events:

Husband/Wife Combo $100: [ESPRESSO_CART_LINK event_id=”male_event_id” anchor=”Add To Cart”]
Single Ticket $100: [ESPRESSO_CART_LINK event_id=”female_event_id” anchor=”Add To Cart”]

I hope this helps you. Let us know if you have more questions.

Johnathan, if I choose to use the option you mentioned above, how do I get 2 tickets to generate when they click the husband/wife combo ticket? I still need 2 tickets for $100, rather than it charging them $100 twice. I need both attendee info as well…. Maybe I’m not doing it correctly…

Hello Audrea,

I think you are getting it. You can add a third event/ticket and use the shortcodes like this:

Husband/Wife Combo $100: [ESPRESSO_CART_LINK event_id="combo_event_id" anchor="Add To Cart"]
Female Ticket $100: [ESPRESSO_CART_LINK event_id="female_event_id" anchor="Add To Cart"]
Male Ticket $100: [ESPRESSO_CART_LINK event_id="male_event_id" anchor="Add To Cart"]

Sorry, I just read my previous post and I had the codes a little mixed up. Maybe this post will make more sense. 🙂

Ok, still confused… I understand the code and I’ve done everything mentioned. However, it still doesn’t add two tickets to the cart automatically. It’s confusing because if I choose Married Ticket Combo, I would assume that the price shown is correct and it’s going to give out 2 tickets and allow me to register two people. So how are they going to know to choose the 2 in the dropdown in order to get two tickets? I’m so confused… The codes you gave only gave me links to a ticket. When I enter the id for the combo ticket, the Add to Cart and View Cart takes me to the actual Event (Investing with Confidence Test) and has nothing about a combo ticket. Som what am I missing? My Event Site– Choose Investing With Confidence (Test) Event. I don’t know how to hide the others without deactivating them.

I think the way Jonathan was thinking about it, you would add the questions for the spouse to the combo ticket event, then they would print the same ticket out twice.

You could use the Volume Discounts Add-on (available for free in the pre-release channel) to offer the husband / wife combo as a 2-for-1 discount.

Hi Audrea,

If you use this shortcode, it will only reserve 1 ticket.

[Husband/Wife Combo $100: [ESPRESSO_CART_LINK event_id="combo_event_id" anchor="Add To Cart"]

The only thing I know to do would be to set up a 50% promotional code that the couple can enter to make the price $100. That way the system will reserve 2 spaces, but they will get the couple’s discount.

When you add a ticket to the cart, you still have to select the amount of tickets you want once you get to the cart.

Ok, no that won’t help me allow for the amount of seats availabl. That kinda defeats the purpose of selling tickets and keeping up with how many tickets sold, their name and info entered into the event database. Thanks for explaining that Sidney! I know and have an understanding of the volume discount feature.

Hi Jonathan. I guess we replied at the exact same time. Just to add to my comment after reading yours, I was trying to use the PROMO Code for something else which disallowed me to use it twice for the couple discount and for any additional discount… For example, we were giving all couples a 50% discount so they don’t have to purchase two tickets at full price. But were were planning to also give a discount (using a PROMO CODE) for other things as well. But since Event Expresso doesn’t allow for multiple codes to be entered on a multi-registration option, it causes confusion. If that were solved, my issue would be solved. lol!

I believe the Volume Discounts add-on also lets you use a promo code at the same time. If you go to your profile page and scroll down to the downloads section, there is a checkbox that lets you join the pre-release channel. Once that is activated, you should see the Volume Discounts Add-On. It will let you set up a rule, like “if two tickets are bought at the same time, mark them down by 50%”.
