Hello,
I was wondering how the whole discount promotions thing worked.
Say I add 50 codes and then I add 500 events allowing usage of all those codes. Then I add 50 more codes, do I have to edit all 500 events to apply those news codes to it?

Hi Philip,
I wouldn’t recommend adding that many codes, for the reason that you mention about going back to all the events and applying all the codes to it.. The standard promo codes can be used more than once. So for example, if you wanted to offer a 20% discount, you create one code for that, then assign it to all the events where you want to offer 20% off. Each person who enters that code will get that discount.

We currently have 700 codes that I would need to import when making the switch to event espresso.
And they would need to work on all events i’ll be adding.
What do I do Josh?

Hi Philip,
The social coupon add-on could be used to handle a large number of promo codes. The caveat is that the social coupon/voucher discount is a 100% discount because the intended use is for a Groupon style promotion where the deal was purchased through a third party and the code is being used to redeem the deal.
There’s a tool that can be downloaded that can be used to import voucher codes from the pre-release downloads page:

I had to end up paying a developer to modify the groupon addon to add $ and % discounts as well as setting usage limits.
You guys should implement this, basic functionality…. 100% off all the time does nobody any good.

Thanks for the feedback. Our developers are very busy working on Event Espresso 3.2 and may not be able to focus on this until that version is released in the coming months.
Is that code you something you could share with us so we could include it in future updates?

Yes, however we need to implement one more fix first, maybe you can help. The deduction of the total price is working and being passed fine, however at the end if the total is 0.00 and it completes the registration it keeps the payment status as Incomplete.
