I want a user to be able to buy a ticket using their credit card or PayPal account; however, the ticket will actually be used by someone else as a gift. How best to handle this, including ticket printing, in Espresso 4.x?

Thanks.

Hi there,

Do you not want any of the notification emails to go to the ‘recipient’ (the person the gift is for)?

The ‘payee’ could register under their name and email address and then the details changed within the admin and the ticket printed that way.

Another option is to create an event specifically for gifts, have the payee register as normal but collect the ‘recipients’ details in custom questions, then create a custom ticket template for the event that pulls the details using those custom questions.

Would either of those work for you?

I would like the payment receipt to go to the payee using the payee’s name, but the ticket to be emailed to the recipient, using the recipient’s name.

If I follow your first suggestion, then the system is going to automatically send the ticket to the buyer during the checkout process. Correct? Then I would need to manually create a ticket for the recipient?

Your 2nd suggestion is a viable option also and may work better.

Perhaps a similar feature could be added to a future release of Espresso?

Thanks.

Hi there,

The ticket notice can actually be sent to the recipient. Here’s how to set this up:

1) You add a required question to the registration form, and you set the question type to “Email”. You can add other questions to capture the Recipient’s name. So for example two questions get added:
Recipient name
Recipient email address
2) You go to Event Espresso > Messages > Default Message templates and edit the Ticket Notice email. In the To: field you input this:
[RECIPIENT_ANSWER_* Recipient email address]
Then in the message and ticket template you can swap in this for the
[RECIPIENT_FNAME] and [RECIPIENT_LNAME] shortcodes:
[RECIPIENT_ANSWER_* Recipient name]
