How to mitigate the one flaw with Event Espresso?

We’ve had i instances where a limited number of tickets have been exceeded in sales. It appears that when a registrant submits the first page (after selecting quantities of tickets), EE checks availability. If available, registration proceeds to the next page. But it seems that tickets are not recorded as sold until payment is chosen & registration completed.

So if one ticket is available and 3 people select that ticket at the same time, all 3 people can purchase that ‘1’ ticket. We have two instances now where tickets have oversold by 4 & 5 because we had a huge rush all at once.

Here are my questions:

1) Am I correct that EE only checks availability once, when ticket #s are submitted?
2) Am I correct that the ticket is not recorded as sold until registration is complete?
3) Is there any way to avoid this situation?

Thanks!
