How to enable user-specific contacts?

EE capability ee_read_contact seems to have no effect on EE contact functionality, whereas ee_read_contacts gives the user access to all the contacts on the website (those added and not added by a user).

My question is if there is a way to enable a user to read and edit ONLY its own contacts.

No because a contact does not have a 1 to 1 relationship to an event. For example, let’s say I register for one of user A’s events, then I also register for one of user B’s events and so on. If there were some type of post to post relationship built between contacts, which there currently isn’t, then relationship would need to be one to many.

I’m not concerned about contact-to-event relationship but contact-to-user relationship, which I guess it’s a bit different. Simply said current functionality prevents users from managing its own customers (registrants). If users had a contact lists representing those registrants to their event a crm-like functionality might be possible. Now I don´t see what this functionality is for in a multi-user environment.

You’ll probably need to use the Registrations lists only because the contact lists are not linked to events, and events are linked to the author.
