When I create my event, why is it always set to Free Event, then I have to manually delete it? I can’t figure out how to permanently remove it.

You can’t remove what we call the ‘base price’ but you can change it so it no longer defaults to be free.
If you go to Event Espresso -> Pricing.
You should see a ‘Base price’ listed there.
Whatever you have set for that will be the dfault ticket name, description and price for every new ticket you create (An event must lways have a ticket so base price is used when you create an event).
Click on that to edit it, set the name and price to whatever you want the default value to be for all of your newly create tickets and save.
Now when you create a new event that will be your default, that’s unlikely to work for all of your events but as it sounds like you delete the ‘free’ ticket each time anyway it may apply better.
