My client wants people who read about an event to have the option of volunteering/performing at the event, in addition to having a contact page or registration process. Is it possible to allow people to volunteer through the EE system? If not, what is the closest way to doing this to make it look like you can? Maybe creating a $0 Ticket?

People have done this by setting up a separate event to register for as a speaker/volunteer. Take a look at http://emerysafety.com/wp/ which has a separate registration process for exhibitors and conference attendees. In your case, you’d just want your volunteer registration to be a free event.
