How do you do a registration for a Class that is a session?

So for example we’ve got a Painting class that is 6 weeks long and meets every Tuesday from 6:30 – 7pm. Is there an easy/appropriate way to enter this? I’m a little confused.

Hi Richard,

Is this a “course” in that each week is required or should an attendee be able to register for any course?

If this is a “course”, then create the initial event and save changes.

Then duplicate the event 5 times. Copy the first event’s (event handle payments and registration) registration URL and paste it into the alternative registration URL for each of the additional events (i.e., weeks 2 through 6). Then update the event date and save changes.

This will show each event session on in your event list and on the calendar (if that is in use). If a member tries to register for weeks 2 through 6, then they will be brought to week 1 (the event handling payments and registration) so they can begin the registration process.

Oh excellent! I’ll test that out. Is there an easy way to duplicate events or do I have to do it manually?

Also I’m on a development server so when I enter the ‘Alternate Registration page’ what do i put? Can I use a relative URL? I don’t want to have to go back into every event and change the Alternate Registration Page once we go live if I don’t have to.

Hi,

There is a duplicate button in the event editor under the title area. The event needs to be saved for it to appear.

A URL will be needed. For now, I would enter one full URL on the second week so you can see how it works. Otherwise, you would need to enter those twice.

Ok so the URL will need to be an absolute URL? and will not work If I enter it as relative? Is that what you’re saying?

Also we’re using this for classes and not events. Is there a way to take off or change the title that says ‘event details’. And we have a separate page that has events that will not include any classes, yet I’ve discovered that the events page has been hijacked 🙂 And shows the classes. Is there a way to have that page not be hijacked or to make it only show ‘events’ and not the ones we’ve designated as classes?

Hi, I don’t think that will work so I would just add the absolute URL for one or two just to confirm that its working as expected (routing additional weeks to the original event).

Event Espresso shouldn’t interfere with content on other WordPress pages since it uses a shortcode for registration on its own page.

If you are trying to show a specific category of events, then try this:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/shortcodes-template-variables/#event-list

[EVENT_LIST event_category_id=your_category_identifier]

or

[EVENT_LIST category_identifier=your_category_identifier]

The messaging can be adjusted by using a plugin like Quick localization or a gettext filter:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-change-wording-with-poedit/#plugins

Both of these options will ensure that your customizations are preserved on a software update.

Ok thanks on the URL thing. I’ll see if it’ll work.

I think you’re misunderstanding the part about the hijacking. My events page is blank – meaning I have entered nothing into that page, but it looks like EE has chosen it as the ‘Events Listing URL’ by default. I don’t see anywhere to change this. I also don’t see anywhere that I can filter the category of events that are show on that page.

thanks!

My prior response was for Event Espresso 3. The Event_list shortcode is not available in version 4.

You can change the default events slug to something else:
