Hi. We would like the ability to have people register for an event, enter their payment information, but not have their credit card charged until the event is confirmed. Once the event is confirmed then we process payment.
Is there a way to do this in Event Espresso?
Currently, we are losing money because people can register for a course without inputting any credit card information. Then when the course is confirmed and we request payment, they cancel and we don’t get paid.
Thank you for your prompt reply. Can you tell me more about this? Is there a PCI security standard that specifically forbids this sort of transaction? I ask because the registration software we used to use, RegOnline, did allow this functionality, and now we’re discussing going back.
Is RegOnline operating out of compliance? Or is there something in the programming that could satisfy the PCI regs and still allow for this functionality?
PCI compliance doesn’t specifically forbid storing credit card info for later use, but the standards are much higher so it’s really not something that a distributed product like EE can practically do (since the software is typically running on shared servers, running WordPress, and storing everything in a mySQL database on that typical shared hosting sever).
I do not know how RegOnline captures, handles, and stores credit card information so I can’t comment on whether they’re PCI compliant.
