Hi π I recently purchased the Business version of Events Expresso and have it all installed. I’m trying to set up an event where the user can specify their own dates but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to do it and would be very grateful for any help you can provide. Basically imagine there’s an event called “Wedding shower” with a set location and price. Mrs Smith comes along and wants to purchase this event for her friend’s upcoming wedding and needs to be able to specify the number of attendees and also nominate her preferred dates, and then proceed to paying for the event. Any idea how I would achieve this? Many thanks! Harmony |

Hi Chelsey, With the current version of Event Espresso that isn’t possible unless you get the person to register with the site (as an actual user) and set them up with a specific role via a membership plugin and the Roles and Permissions basic/pro add ons. The user can then create events, but from the dashboard, which isnt ideal for the general public. We are currently testing a front end event creator that allows users to add basic events, with the option for admin approval first, without having to go near the back end. You will still need to set them up to register first via your favourite membership system, and you will probably need to redirect them on log in to the appropriate page. There is no definite timescale on release of the Front End Manager (working title) add on, but it is in late stage testing so we are hoping sooner rather than later. This doesnt resolve the fact that you would then need the person to register for the event and pay. The only real alternative would be to create 365 events, one for each day so that the user can simply pick a day. Plus you can also limit the attendance (think number of events instead of attendance count) to help manage how many showers can be held on one day. If I understand how you are doing this, you can use a custom question to obtain the attendee count as only one person needs to book the event – unless individuals need to register and obtain tickets. You would need to think about which method would be best for you. This is easily done using the Recurring Events Manager but it may put strain on your server due tot he large number of events it will create (one thing we are looking at right now is ways to reduce this strain when a user has hundreds of events – we have started this by reducing the output of events in the dashboard area). |

Hi Dean, thanks so much for your response π I’m wondering then if, instead, I could simply set up a single event without any specific dates, and the user could register their interest and then the site manager could specify the dates later on? For example – Mrs Smith clicks “Register Interest” on the bridal shower event, but doesn’t pay for anything yet, and when the site owner gets her registration email she contacts the client direct to confirm dates and THEN adds dates to the event and can send the client a payment / registration link? Thanks again Harmony |

Hi Harmony, This one is interesting as the events require an event date. The only way I can think of working around it would be to create a year long event with one of the questions being what day do you want your shower. This may work if you have different themed showers, but also has its drawbacks again depending on your exact set up. So if you just need them to pick a day via a question, pay and provide numbers via a question it could work. The main drawback i see is if you have limited numbers of events possible per day, with that system there is no way to stop 30 people applying for a specific day. You can keep it as a free event to register interest, but then they would need to be pointed to another event to register or you take the details manually which kind of defeats the purpose of using the plugin. I would say it is more feasible to use the Recurring Event Manager in this situation and have numerous events. You could set them up on a monthly basis to make it easier to display and use questions to obtain shower theme, number of guests etc and use the attendee count to limit how many events run that day (make sure only one person can register). I would make use of the customised Recurring Event Manager templates that ship in the zip folder as this helps list the dates with one description rather than 30-365 descriptions. |
