Hoping for some insights on plugin behavior

Hello hope you are all doing well. This is not an urgent issue but our client that uses event espresso has reported ever since a recent update (4.10.36.p), that there are some oddities with certain transactions. It does not prevent them from being paid but it does create a little bit of messiness accounting wise.

The best way to explain this is that you see here in the front end it’s showing that they paid for a -42$ ticket, even though the cost of the ticket is actually something else.

While the transaction itself seems to reflect the actual payments that were made.

I also see that this person repeatedly attempted to purchase the same events multiple times that are associated with this transaction so I am not sure if this is simply expected behavior because event espresso is somehow amending previous payments to current ones.

According to them, this has been happening frequently with a number of customers ever since the update took place. So the question they would like me to ask is if something has fundamentally changed with recent updates with regards to how event espresso handles registrations and the way it displays price paid and ticket price. I know this is not the most concise query I would like to be able to give them some sort of answer. Nonetheless, it’s appreciated

Hi there,

In short, I’m not aware of any changes within Event Espresso that would cause the above but I’d like to investigate this further.

The value shown in that section is something saved in the database as REG_final_price and that is the share of a registration group’s total cost that specific registration is accountable for.

The ‘Paid’ column (which in your screenshot) shows as 0 and should not, it’s the amount paid for that specific registration.

The -42 is interesting because that’s 110 (the cost of the ‘other’ ticket) – 68 (the cost of the ticket linked to that registration = 42, but then in a negative. There are no calculations done on the fly on that Registration list table there which means -42 has been saved within the database as that registrations REG_final_price… which doesn’t make sense.

I also see that this person repeatedly attempted to purchase the same events multiple times that are associated with this transaction so I am not sure if this is simply expected behavior because event espresso is somehow amending previous payments to current ones.

Can you add more details on this, please?

Good afternoon Tony I appreciate the response,

That was my thought exactly about the negative number, it does seem to be the addition of some of those numbers leading to -42. That is pretty useful to know as well that it retrieves that number from some entry in the database that is ultimately saved so something in between must have led it to save that way.

I can get you some more screenshots below but feel free to let me know if there is any other useful information you might need from me as well since I understand something like this can be difficult to get to the bottom of.

You can already get some idea of which registrations this person attempted in the first screen shot but below I will post some private images for you to review below with more details on those transactions.

Thanks again, and do let me know if you need more info than I’ve supplied

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing the screenshots. I am Joao from the support team and will be working with Tony on your request.

Unfortunately, the screenshots didn’t help a lot and we need to be honest saying it’s an odd issue. We would like to take a look at your Dashboard (what’s not a solution guarantee) to see if we can find something regarding this. Please, you can share it through this link: https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

Thanks,

Thanks Joao, that’s understandable with an issue like this one where it could be pretty much anything. I will run this by my client just so I can make sure they are ok with me granting access I and let you know

Thanks Joao no problem, I just had to run it by them since they have a board of people that would want to know about it too. But anyway looks like I managed to get a quick ok for them and I have submitted the requested info

Hey everyone just figured I would check in and see how it is going with this issue. There’s not really a rush since the client hasn’t reported anything else odd lately, but I still figured I would see if you guys got an opportunity to use the login I submitted in case they ask me for an update. Let me know if there is anything else I can provide, and have a nice day
