About a month ago we switched from EE4 to EE3 in order to accept social coupons, specifically through GROUPON. Since then I have been troubleshooting with my partner, with GROUPON reps, through this forum and with a web friend, yet we still have not been able to successfully accept vouchers through our site. We got the codes from GROUPON, loaded them into the site and we have the events set to ‘accepting social coupons.’ I was able to grab one of the vouchers and redeem it through the site when I tried to check out myself but no one else, not one customer has been able to redeem their voucher through the site. What am I doing wrong? We went through so much trouble trying to set up this site, that I am dreading switching to another event registration system, but if we can’t get this online, we’re going to have to! |

After switching recently from EE4 to EE3 exclusively to use the GROUPON Voucher code feature, my customers have not been able to successfully apply their discounts online. Per your previous forums, I am using Event Espresso v3.1.37.8.P, and I followed instructions on properly installing the plugin. Please help me troubleshoot! Best Regards |
Hi Alison, So you have added your Groupon codes via Event Espresso -> Groupon Codes and have a list of groupon codes that can be used there? Within the event editor for the event you want to accept Groupon codes have you enabled them by setting ‘Allow Groupon codes’ to yes? – http://take.ms/H3vfh When that option is enabled EE will request the voucher code on the registration for the event. |

Hello Tony: Thanks for your continued assistance in our transition to EE3. The event editor is set to allow GOUPON codes. I wonder whether it could be an issue with how the codes were uploaded into the backend? I bulk uploaded the voucher codes from our GROUPON merchant reps as .csv excell spreadsheets, following the directions listed on the bulk-uploader to the letter. EE indicated the codes were added to our database, but we’re still receiving emails from customers that their codes are not working at checkout. Any thoughts? |
If you navigate to Event Espresso -> Groupon Codes, can you view your groupon codes? If you manually add a single Groupon code there and try use that code on an event does it work? |

I tried to manually add a single GROUPON code and use it at check out, and it worked. However, my wordpress backend said the code was already in the database, more than one time. The codes are in there. Not one person customer has been able to use their codes at checkout. |
Hi Alison, Is there an error message when someone tries to redeem their voucher? Do you know the Voucher code(s) they are trying to use? |

We had a customer try to redeem voucher code 42608373. I checked through the backend, and the code was listed as unredeemed through our database. It was loaded and ready to go. The client said she received a message indicating the groupon was already redeemed, invalid or not used at the event The code was listed in the database more than once, would that affect redemption? |
Yes, you should only have a single code for each groupon voucher, so each user has a unique code that can be used once. If you have multiple instances of the same code then when EE searches for ‘42608373’ it will use the first row from the database that matches that code. If that has been redeemed then it will display an error. |

Hello Tony: The code had not been redeemed, though. Upon checking through GROUPON merchant center, the voucher was marked as unused. Also, I have an update on the error message my client received. This is an excerpt from an email she sent (it’s pretty embarrassing to troubleshoot w/ my clients btw!): “I was trying to enter the actual voucher number ‘42608373’ and the message I received was that the voucher was either redeemed, invalid or wasn’t good for that venue. I also tried other voucher numbers that I had ordered and received the same message.” |
Hi Alison, It turns out that when a voucher code is redeemed in Event Espresso 3, it doesn’t send any information along to Groupon so it will not show up as redeemed in the Groupon merchant center. Also, it may help to make sure there are no duplicate codes in Event Espresso > Manage Groupon Codes. |
