group registration feature not for chargefree events?

I activated the group registration feature in the event settings. It did not work. We have a chargefree event. One user has registered 3 attendees and those attendees appeared in the exported list with group 1, group 2, group 3. Anything else I need to do to enable users to register more then one attendee in order to avoid that they always have to enter each detail serveral time? Thanky, dh

It sounds like you have an older version of Event Espresso installed. Is that the case?

There should be an option to not require any additional attendee info just below where you set the allow group registrations option.

We have the recent Event Espresso version 3.1.24.3P
Yes, I saw this option, but if I do activate it or don’t, it makes no difference in the registration process or in the records. Only that a red bar appears if one person registeres more then one attendees “the attendees records need to be updated” or something like this, which disappears if I delete all the attendees registered by the same person.

Can you discribe, what I can expect, what in fact should happen if I activate the group option and the option for not require any additional attendee info? Shouldn’t there appear a kind of choice: do you want to register one or a group of persons?

It defintely does not work. I activated group registration and chose the option further attendees will be asked only personal information.

I have just tested it again. There does not appear any option during the registration process or after verifying and confirmation, asking me if I want to register a second person. The only option I have, is to enter the registration page using the menu point of the website and registering a second person. But then, I will be asked all the questions again, which I have been asked befor as well. No simplifying of the registration process for the second person.
We are using Event Espresso premium with Member Add-on,WP-Plugins: WP Member, Customize Meta widget, delete me, WP-filemanager and WP-Firewall.
Are there any known interferences?

It sounds like the database needs to be updated if you’re getting an error message. See this post in a similar thread for instructions on how to update the database:

I tried your advice:

>>The following steps should update the attendee information:
>>1) Add this line of code to the very end of the espresso.php file:
>>event_espresso_update_attendee_data();
>>2) Then navigate to the Event Espresso>General settings page and save >>the settings.
>>3) Then remove the above function from the espresso.php file.

First it would be helpful to know the path to the file espresso.php.
I looked into the uploads/espresso/templates folder and there is no espresso.php and finally, I found it in wp-content/plugins/espresso.
I would be grateful receiveing a bit more precisely instructions.

It worked fine the error alert disappeared.

And re-appeared with the next registration. This error line “update attendees database” always appear, if one registers while this group option is activated.
It is not possible to use the group feature. It does not offer different registration questions (allthough provided by question groups and activated in the event options)for the first and the second particpant and neither an option to choose if I want to register further particpants.

Do you have any better advice?
Further:
Such information like “Error update the attendees database” should not appear in the dashboard of a normal WP-subscriber.
Thanks for your concern.
dh

And the 3 attendees registered by one user occur in the exported excel file as group 1, group 2 and group 3.

If the name of the plugin directory is espresso, that indicates to me Event Espresso may not have been updated correctly. Please see these instructions on how to manually update Event Espresso: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/

Thanks, I will check tomorrow your recommended webpage.
A rough glance into the plugin directory, following folders are listed (among other plugins):

espresso-calendar-2.0.2

espresso-members.1.9.3

espresso-social.1.1.4

event-espresso

event-espresso.3.1.20.P

Definitely delete the last one, there shouldn’t be two copies of Event Espresso. All of the other add-ons should be updated as well (including the members add-on)

I deleted the last folder (it wasn’t active anyway). We are using
Event Espresso – 3.1.25.P
We don’t use the calender, therefore it is still 2.0.2 instead of 2.0.3. All other plug-ins are the most recent ones.
Activated group registration still produce the error “update attendees list” if one registers, no idea why.
We won’t use the group registration feature, it’s not important.
Best regards,
dh

If you’re not using the calendar add-on, it’s best to delete the add-on from the server.

I would also recommend deactivating the EE plugin that’s currently active and installing a fresh copy from your account page. If the folder name should be ‘event-espresso’ not ‘espresso’.
