Gift Certificates (3)

EE3/WP4:
1. I have a PayPay Pro account but my site currently uses just the PayPal Settings. I am considering getting an SSL and using PayPal Pro settings so that users stay on my site when purchasing events. My question is: I offer Gift Certificates. The Gift Certificate function is a separate platform than PayPal Pro. Will the switch cause a problem with my gift certificate functionality?

2. Does anyone know of other Payment Gateways that have better gift certificate functionality than PayPal that work with EE3? Or any other way to incorporate gift certificates with EE3? My customers are consistently frustrated by PPs need to match recipient and redeemer email addresses.

Thanks!

Hi Suzanne,

Both versions of Event Espresso support using multiple payment gateways at once. For example, you could enable an offline option such as invoices and and online option such as PayPal.

Switching the payment options that are used will only affect Event Espresso. This will not affect any other plugins that are running on your site.

Have you considered adding the gift certificate as a pricing option in a separate event?

How would “adding the gift certificate as a pricing option in a separate event” function in terms of event registrations? My customers generally want to purchase a gift certificate in a specific dollar amount to give as a gift, then recipient would need to be able to use the funds to purchase and register for an event.

Hi,

You could create different fixed prices (e.g. 50, 75, 100) and let Event Espresso handle the payment processing.

However, the redeem process would still need to be handled manually.

How are you currently handling that if you don’t mind me asking?

I use a “Gift Certificate” button created in PayPal. PayPal tracks the purchase so when the redeemer registers and pays for an event, they enter the code into the payment and it applies it.

Alright, so PayPal holds onto the funds and handles the redeem process. That is probably the best option for now. If you switch payment processing to Event Espresso then you would need to manually handle create a discount code for the amount of the gift certificate.

Wish there was another way with GCs. But back to the first part of my question, so you are saying I can have PayPal Pro and PayPal both active in the Payment Settings of EE3? I would need PayPal Pro to handle all Event transactions except the Gift Certificates, and the PayPal button currently in use on my page for Gift Certificates to continue to function using regular PayPal. It’s not an offline vs online thing as in your example so I am still concerned.

Hi,

Any available payment options will appear once they are enabled. It may be possible to restrict certain events to using a specific payment gateway but this will require some custom coding from a developer.
