Getting 'ZERO_RESULTS' on addresses that used to work

Hello!

Happy new year!

Before Christmas, we’d just managed to get the site live for December and it all seemed to be running smoothly.

Now we’re back in the new year and some of the old map locations that used to work have broken, and the console is giving a ‘ZERO_RESULTS’ error.

One of the maps works, here’s a link to a broken map: https://aerosol-soc.com/events/ddl2017/location/ and the working one: https://aerosol-soc.com/events/atmospheric-ice-nucleation-conference-dinner-tetley/location/

I can’t find what could be causing this, I assume it would be because google can’t find the addresses but they all used to work so I’m a bit lost!

Hope you can help, thanks, Harry.

It will help Google find the place if you include the street address:

150 Morrison St

Hi Josh,

Thanks, for your reply.

We have tried using the street addresses, it only seems to work if we don’t include an address line 1/2 which means the location it shows is very vague.

Do you think it could be a change by google to the geocode due to the fact it used to work?

Thanks, Harry.

They probably do update the Maps API from time to time.

Here’s a tool you can use to test an address on the Maps JavaScript API:

https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/geocoding/intro

I tried this exact query and it returned a result:

The Exchange Edinburgh, 150 Morrison St, Edinburgh EH3 8EE, UK

Here’s a screenshot of the result.

Hi Josh,

Thanks for looking into that. I added the address as you said and it still didn’t work. I then checked the address with the county and tada, ZERO_RESULTS!

I’ve now set the address to the street address and removed the county and it’s working. I expect google have made some change to how counties work with the geocoding.

Thanks for your help with this, sorry for bothering you with it even though it wasn’t related to a plugin issue. It’s appreciated.

Have a good new year, thanks, Harry.

Hi Harry,

We’ve had a couple of threads come up recently where the addresses have stopped working so I too suspect Google have updated the geocoding.

Unfortunately I missed how this was previously setup but I would like to investigate this a little further if possible.

Could you post a screenshot of how you had this setup in the venue address when it did not work?

Also for future readers of this thread, the ‘ZERO_RESULTS’ error is not really an error as such, it means the google maps api did not throw any errors but could not find any results for the address passed to it.
