Getting comments on active & expired events

I keep getting email notifications pending approval for comments on events, whether they are active or expired. I have turned commenting off in the discussion settings of WordPress and have even hidden the comment div, but I continue to get notifications. How can I completely disable commenting on events and venues on existing and future events? Thank you.

Hello,

Try using a plugin like Akismet to reduce the spam comments (if its a spam issue).

Then use WP Disable Comments (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-disable-comments/) to disable comments and trackbacks on the post types for Event Espresso:
