Hello! I want to work through the ee5 beta. Only host one mission critical event each year so this is a good time to beta test as I have 6-8 months before my next event.

Where can I find info on the ee5 feature set (don’t recall seeing an email and search on site doesnt’ show anything).

Fully understanding BETA, I am considering putting the beta on my production site.

What steps shall I take to preserve my current EE data?
In the likelihood that I ee5 is still in beta before my next major event, can I downgrade back to ee4?
Can I run ee4 and ee5 in parallel on a production site?
Are there any known plug-ins that are incompatible?
Are there any EE4 add-ons that work (I assume none work)?

Any other advice?

Omar

Hi Omar,

EE5 basically IS EE4 but we’ve completely rebuilt the event editor and a bunch of other changes to improve the code (there’s way to much to put into a detailed change log, but a blog post could give a general overview).

What steps shall I take to preserve my current EE data?

It will all be preserved when you install EE5 ๐Ÿ™‚

In the likelihood that I ee5 is still in beta before my next major event, can I downgrade back to ee4?

EE5 is currently on a phased release cycle and being released to small sets of customers at a time, we’ve implemented this help make the rollout as smooth as we can. EE5 will be fully released well before your event but the earlier you get onto it the earlier/quicker we can work through any issues you find.

Yes, you can safely downgrade from EE5 to EE4.10.46.

Can I run ee4 and ee5 in parallel on a production site?

No, you cannot run both.

Are there any known plug-ins that are incompatible?

None that we are aware of.

Are there any EE4 add-ons that work (I assume none work)?

All of the add-ons should work with EE5 ๐Ÿ™‚

Any other advice?

When are you planning to do this? I can send you a copy of the next release cycle when it goes live, that way you are running the latest version of EE5 available (the Beta is old and I’ll likely remove it shortly).

Thanks, Tony! Very helpful and, based on your reply above, I am ready to go with the next version of the beta as soon as it’s is available to me.

Hi Omar,

Version 5.0.3 has been released on the next phase and I’ve added your account to that process so you can download the latest version of EE5 now.
