Its possible to filter events in the calendar using the shortcode…
But

Why not add the option to the “EE calendar view options”
that allows users to filter the event views on the basis of categories and allo them to navigate better on the basis van categories

You can enable it by going to your EE dashboard -> Calendar -> Basic Setting then click the filter.
