Assuming the event category slug is komodo that is the correct syntax:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/ee4-shortcodes-template-variables/#event-category-listings

Can you explain what you mean by “not working”?

sure I mean if I take the shortcode with my for with the correct slug I copied form the categories pages and insert to a page. according to the category list komodo has 4 events associated with it. but it shows all 7 of my dummy events I have setup and not the ones only associated with komodo. this is also the case for the other categories I have setup. it just displays all.

It sounds like there’s some code on your site (either from another plugin or the theme) that’s stripping away the taxonomy part of the query. I can see the native taxonomy archive route is displaying the 4 events here:

It may help to follow this troubleshooting guide to find the plugin or find if it’s a theme function:

hi
i have done some testing, i did not need to disable any of the plugins, i used the default theme and the categories work as expected. so there seems to be some sort of conflict with the theme i have. I have tested this using the correct shortcode and need to continue to use the shortcode as this is how my site is configured.

you have any idea how i can find this out or you can help with me this. this is the last thing i need to get working and im ready to go live.

any advice would be awesome. thanks

My advice would be to find the code within the theme that’s causing the problem and either remove it or wrap it into a conditional so that it doesn’t affect the pages where you don’t want it to have that effect. Is there a place where we can download a copy of the theme? If so we can point you in a more specific direction. You can even upload the theme’s zip file to a dropbox folder (or similar), then post the link here so we can download it.

I loaded up the theme you sent and the category_slug shortcode parameter works on the testing site. Maybe the conflict is within the custom code?
