Hi there,
What is the function of “Featured Image”? Where does it add the image? What would be the size?

Hey Ted–
The Featured Image is a bit of a misnomer just because it is backported functionality from the forthcoming Event Espresso 3.2. In 3.1.x, Featured Image just refers to the image that appears in the calendar and only if images are set to display in the calendar in your calendar settings (Espresso Calendar 2.0+).

Currently smaller is better but mostly just for loading time. In 3.2 (assuming the functionality works as it was originally mapped out and is ready when we release it) the featured image will display in the event as well as the event list.

(Of course I say smaller is better, but it depends on the size of your calendar, really. However ~150px square would probably work best.)

I had the same question.. and this may help other coders. You can reference the image using $event_meta[‘event_thumbnail_url’] in your own event_list_display templates.

Having an issue with the Featured Image bit. I upload an image, save it – make sure images are enabled on my calendar – but it doesn’t show up anywhere? Am I not using it correctly?

Make sure you have the very latest versions of Event Espresso and the calendar add-on installed.

yes to both. Just downloaded it yesterday…event-espresso.3.1.24.2.P and calendar version espresso-calendar.2.0.3
It is strange, cause when I click upload Featured Image the resulting screen doesn’t give the usual message “use as featured image”

That might be a plugin or theme conflict. There should be a modal box that pops up when the feature image button is clicked.

yah – well just tried the new version – fresh install. Same issue. Using WordPress 3.4.1 and TwentyEleven for the theme. So nothing too strange there. No other plugins installed.
I click the featured image button – the usual wp modal box pops up without the option to ‘use as featured image’ like usual. I click insert into post and the modal window closes and there is no image shows beneath the featured image with ‘remove featured image’ next to it.
I do have to say this install does not have the calendar plugin… So I am expecting it to show in the EE event. Maybe it isn’t set up that way? Haven’t looked yet.

The featured image option was added for use with the calendar. We haven’t added anything to the event display templates to include a featured image.

That answers that – will have to put it in my template. Will do an upgrade on the previous install to get it working and thanks for the info!
