I have been using event espresso for quite some time. I have never had this issue. When I try to add the featured image, the image crashes.
I did try for the first time the recurring event, but was unhappy with how the registration time populated so I deactivated the plugin.
Now, even events unrelated to the previous recurring events will not respond to featured image upload. If I try to add a completely new event, the featured image still crashes.
I have disabled and deleted all plugins related to image optimization.
Deleted and re uploaded all images since error.
Deactivated and re activated event espresso.
Restored the site to backup that was created last night.
Still, the featured image will not load. One thing I notice is that instead of “set as featured image” showing, it says “insert into post.”
Not sure where to start from here…

The insert into post is the correct term here, as the events are not true custom post types.
Can you go to http://www.yoursitenamegoeshere.com/wp-admin/options.php and scroll down (or Ctrl-f to search) until you find “image_default_link_type”. Please make sure that the value associated with this is “file” (no quotes).
No problem. I’m still not 100% sure how that happens, but I am glad that it is fixed for you.
