Need help!

I’ve purchased an Event Espresso Business License, and I’ve also just purchased the Calendar Table Template.

I would really would like to have Featured Images working but I can’t seem to figure it out. Not sure why this has to be so difficult.

I’ve uploaded the file and it shows up as broken image within wordpress and also within the page.

I’ve gone to the calendar-table/index.php file and I’ve changed each show_featured false to true. But still no luck. I’ve used the correct shortcode : [EVENT_CUSTOM_VIEW template_name=”calendar-table” show_featured=true]

And is there a way also to show the featured image within the events listing and also the event page?

Here’s the link: http://goo.gl/myRvbE

Need assistance please, I’ve paid money so that I don’t have any hassles…

Hello,

Did you find another support post that mentioned making those edit to the plugin file?

What happens if you insert an image into the Event description area? Does that image appear as expected?

Sorry Lorenzo, I’ve revered the calendar-table/index.php file back to the original.

The image works fine within the description area.

In the WP Admin Event Espresso Event page the featured image doesn’t work when I upload it, right away it shows the file as broken.

I go through the source on the broken image and it says:

What do you think I should do ?

When I go through the source and find the broken image it shows up as:

<img class="show-selected-image" src="undefined" alt="">

And what I’ve noticed also that I’m getting an error on Firefox/Safari while Chrome its displaying ok:

Warning: Illegal string offset ‘member_only_all’ in /home/clubital/public_html/website/wp-content/plugins/espresso-custom-templates/templates/calendar-table/index.php on line 107

Matter of fact I just realised any image is not working when I upload it within Event Espresso. I tried uploading the business/company logo and it also shows up as broken.

Hello,

Please try this updated macro for the php warning message:

https://eventespresso.com/topic/illegal-string-offset-member_only_all-firefoxsafari/#post-98857

Are images broken in the event description area as well as the featured image area?

Could you try uploading an image to a WordPress post? Does this image work correctly or does it also appear broken?

I’ve uploaded an image within the description area and it worked fine.

But when I upload an image within the Event Espresso featured image upload button, it doesn’t work. And when I upload a company logo it doesn’t work either.

Looks like the upload feature within Event Espresso is not running….

Any suggestions Lorenzo ?

When you click on the “Upload Image” button in the event editor the overlay window does appear with the WP file uploader interface? What happens if you select an image that you have already uploaded to the Media Library?

I’ve uploaded screenshots, so you have a better idea of what is happening:

I uploaded images and also tried using Media Library photos and it does the same thing.

Hi Xonnie,

With Event Espresso 3 ‘feature images’ you need to actually insert the image into the post.

EE3 feature images are not the same as standard WP feature images as EE3 events are not using custom post types. You need to select the image, then click ‘Insert into post’ – http://take.ms/OUye0

You should then see something along the lines of – http://take.ms/3KLo9

Does that help?

Thanks Tony for your response, but it actually doesn’t show “Insert Into Post” for some strange reason.

Here’s a link to another screenshot: http://goo.gl/3QllRb

I’m running WP Super Cache would that be a reason why its not showing “Insert Into Post” and Broken Images ?

The button on my test site also says Insert into Post. Its a minor detail but another plugin may be causing this issue or you may be on older software.

Are they also broken if you deactivate all plugins and reactivate only Event Espresso?

If so, could you reinstall your Event Espresso software? The latest versions can be downloaded from your account page.

What I’ve just noticed is that if I click on “FILE URL” it works without disabling any plugins.

Is there a way to have it running without click on File URL each time.

Reason why is my clients will be using this and want to make it easy as possible for them to upload photos for upcoming events.

What I’ve also noticed is that within the phpmyadmin wp-option table “image_default_link_type” is set to none

If you go to /wp-admin/options.php you can then modify that field there.

So something like http://www.yourblog.com/wp-admin/options.php

Enter the word ‘file’ with no quotes in the field for image_default_link_type, then save.

Hi,

It’s still odd that the media uploader is saying “Use This Image” that is not current WordPress default text. What version of WP are you using? Doe the media uploader text revert back to standard if you disable the NextGen plugin?

“image_default_link_type” should be set to “file” (no quote marks) and you can do that via http://www.YOURSITENAME.com/wp-admin/options.php

Obviously amend that to point to your own site.

Please let us know if it helps.

Thanks Dean & Tony, I’ve disabled NextGen plugin and it still would do the same thing when I upload the image shows up as a broken image.

I’ve tracked down the /wp-admin/options.php file and I’ve done a search for “image_default_link_type”.

This is where I found it:

$whitelist_options = array(
‘general’ => array( ‘blogname’, ‘blogdescription’, ‘gmt_offset’, ‘date_format’, ‘time_format’, ‘start_of_week’, ‘timezone_string’ ),
‘discussion’ => array( ‘default_pingback_flag’, ‘default_ping_status’, ‘default_comment_status’, ‘comments_notify’, ‘moderation_notify’, ‘comment_moderation’, ‘require_name_email’, ‘comment_whitelist’, ‘comment_max_links’, ‘moderation_keys’, ‘blacklist_keys’, ‘show_avatars’, ‘avatar_rating’, ‘avatar_default’, ‘close_comments_for_old_posts’, ‘close_comments_days_old’, ‘thread_comments’, ‘thread_comments_depth’, ‘page_comments’, ‘comments_per_page’, ‘default_comments_page’, ‘comment_order’, ‘comment_registration’ ),
‘media’ => array( ‘thumbnail_size_w’, ‘thumbnail_size_h’, ‘thumbnail_crop’, ‘medium_size_w’, ‘medium_size_h’, ‘large_size_w’, ‘large_size_h’, ‘image_default_size’, ‘image_default_align’, ‘image_default_link_type’ ),
‘reading’ => array( ‘posts_per_page’, ‘posts_per_rss’, ‘rss_use_excerpt’, ‘show_on_front’, ‘page_on_front’, ‘page_for_posts’, ‘blog_public’ ),
‘writing’ => array( ‘use_smilies’, ‘default_category’, ‘default_email_category’, ‘use_balanceTags’, ‘default_link_category’, ‘default_post_format’ )

You are currently opening that file and viewing its code.

You actually need to visit the page, rather than view the code.

So go to http://www.yourblog.com/wp-admin/options.php but replace ‘www.yourblog.com’ with your sites domain.

You will then be shown an options screen you can change values on when logged in.

Thanks Tony for your response,

I’ve navigated to “http://www.yourblog.com/wp-admin/options.php”

Changed image_default_link_type from none -> file

But after a I save it, I check again and find out that it stays as none

Jes Camilleri

May 29, 2014 at 8:19 pm

I’ve tried other fields and it updates but for some strange reason it doesn’t let me update image_default_link_type

Dean

It’s very odd that it won’t allow you to save anything there.

What version of WP are you running? Have you tried disabling all plugins except EE and perhaps reverting to a default theme to temporarily test?

If the upload and options.php work with all plugins de-activated barring EE then we can assume it’s another plugin to blame. Then its a case of re-activating one by one and testing each time to see which plugin is causing the issue.

Hi Dean, I’m running WP 3.9.1 and I’m running Event Espresso 3.1.36.5.P

I’ve disabled all plugins and it still wouldn’t update within wp-admin/options.php image_default_link_type from “none” to “file”.

After I save the settings, the page refreshes and shows the field as none….

Hi Xonnie316,

There’s a tutorial out there that if followed, will set the default link type to none, and if the code is left there, it will keep running. It may help to look through the theme’s functions.php file for this code and if found remove it:

update_option('image_default_link_type','none');
