I updated the plugin and it crashed my site. Now I am trying to re-install. I’ve spent hours on the phone with my hosting server trying to figure out what’s wrong. This is so stressful. I am losing out on business because the plugin won’t work. Can someone please advise ASAP why it’s not working anymore? I feel like there has been more trouble using this system then I have even gotten out of it and am getting beyond frustrated. I’m not sure at this point that I will even bother registering a new license at this point.

The website is http://www.newyorkbroadwaytours.com

Please help. Thanks. -Amada (CEO and OWNER of New York Broadway Tours)

Hi there,

I’m sorry for the trouble. It looks like the download did not complete on the update.

This can be fixed by deactivating the plugin. If you cannot access your WordPress dashboard, you can log in via the host cpanel or FTP and change the name of Event Espresso plugin folder. This will deactivate it. After it’s deactivated, you should be able to access your WordPress dashboard and delete the incomplete Event Espresso plugin from the install.

Then, you can download a fresh copy from your account page and upload it via the Plugins manager page in your WordPress dashboard.

Okay. If it’s the [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] shortcode, you’ll need to check the page settings in Event Espresso>General settings and verify that only the page with the [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] shortcode is set as the Main Registration page.

2 things I noticed looking at your site briefly.

  1. It looks to me like Event Espresso isn’t active. Usually Event Espresso puts a <meta> tag in the header with the version of Event Espresso, I don’t see this, nor any of the Event Espresso javascript that usually loads in the header or the footer.
  2. Oddly, your site is loading a stylesheet from Event Espresso, but it’s located in an event-espresso-2 directory rather than in event-espresso.

event-espresso-2

I would check if Event Espresso is active, if you have multiple copies of Event Espresso on your Plugins page, and — via FTP — what the directory name of the plugin is and make sure that it’s set to event-espresso. These are just a couple ideas of things to check, but the ESPRESSO_EVENTS shortcode isn’t going to work if Event Espresso isn’t active (obviously) and won’t work properly if the js isn’t being loaded.

hi, it’s working now. I finally got the plugin installed and it’s all working now. I had to rename the other file in FTP to disable it to log back into my site. Did you see the site just now? http://www.newyorkbroadwaytours.com/schedule/

Are you saying it won’t work anymore or i will have problems in the future because i had to rename a file? I’m confused. -AA

Hi,

I think what Chris is saying here is that there are multiple copies of the plugin on your site to deactivate and remove them.

From what I can see of the site it looks like it is up and running which is great.

Though I know you had some issues updating, don’t forget to keep an eye on the changelog and keep up to date.
