Hello, I am upgrading to the latest version of Event Espresso, and after uploading the ‘event-espresso’ directory via FTP, and ensuring that the older version of Event Espresso is deleted, I receive a “Fatal Error” when I try to activate the plugin.
Please guide me towards a solution, Julie

Which version of PHP is installed on the server? The Event Espresso requirements check plugin should be able to report the version number if you do not know off hand: https://eventespresso.com/requirements/ |
Running PHP version 5.3.13. The only warning I received was related to MySQL:

Please send WordPress admin level log in credentials via the contact form on this page: https://eventespresso.com/contact/ Select the “I am sending login info as requested” department form. |

Login info just sent. |
Can you send FTP credentials via the same form. Thanks! |
FTP credentials have been sent. |
Can you try resending the FTP creds? We only received the WP creds. |
It has been resent. If it’s not received please email me: samwolcott (at) gmail (dot) com |
We got it. Which version number are you updating from? |
I deleted the old version but I believe it was somewhere in 3.0 |
It hasn’t been updated since September 2011 |
It looked like it hadn’t been updated in about a year. Going from 3.0 to 3.1.25 is quite a jump. It might be better to clear out the event data tables from last year. Is that a viable option? |
The plugin is installed now. I removed the contents of the function that threw the error. It was trying to a write a registration cancelled shortcode to the cancellation page. This can be done manually. The issue now is the options are not saving correctly. Did you make a backup of the database before updating? |
Database is backed up… It’s definitely viable to clear out the event tables if needed. Let me know what I need to do. |
Since the options are not being saved, I think the trouble is in the wp_options table. You might try this first: The event tables can be cleared out by deleting any of the tables that have the word ‘events’ in them via phpmyadmin. |
Clearing out the wp_options fields with “events” seemed to work. Thanks for the help. |
