Hello, I tried to upgrade to version 4 and upon activation of the plugin it crashed my entire site. This is the error: Fatal error: Cannot redeclare espresso_version() (previously declared in /data/9/3/38/41/3364856/user/3753289/htdocs/home/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/espresso.php:31) in /data/9/3/38/41/3364856/user/3753289/htdocs/home/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/espresso.php on line 35

Please HELP!

Hi Scott,

This is becuase you are running both Event Espresso 3 and Event Espresso 4 at the same time. You can run either or.

Do you have FTP access to the site, or cPanel (to use ‘File Manager’)?

You need to de-activate EE4 by renaming the plugin folder (wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/) to something other than it currently is… for example event-espresso-core-reg-temp

This will de-activate Event Espresso 4 and allow you to log into the site again.

Thank you Tony! Worked like a charm.

Great 🙂

If you are going to now use EE4 don’t forget to rename the directory back to the default. ‘event-espresso-core-reg’

You’ll need to de-activate EE3 before activating EE4 and I would recommend making a full site backup before updating, we have a guide available here:
