We have used the same API credentials for Paypal Express for a year without issue. Today we have twice had declined payments that were later accepted. In the additional transaction session details I can see the transaction as pending, then declined and then accepted. If it eventually accepts the transaction I’m assuming the API username, password and signature must be right, but our registrants are confused that the transaction 1) is initially declined and then later accepted or 2) when the registrant decides to re-register after they see the payment is declined that it works. Do you have an explanation for the inconsistency? Do the API credentials for Paypal Express need to be changed regularly?
PayPal themselves live site maintenance on September 18th so you could have been affected by that, if it only happened on the above it is the likely cause, if not then we can help investigate further.

No, not as far as I’m aware.
I haven’t changed mine in years and they are working just fine.
Thanks. It hasn’t happened since then so I will assume it was a live maintenance schedule. Do you know if they publish the live maintenance schedules and if they ever confine them to the middle of the night so as not to impact commerce during the day?

PayPal is the big fish in the online payments pond, so in short they schedule it for whenever they want. Also consider that ‘middle of the night’ is relative and doesn’t mean the servers aren’t being hit fairly hard either way.
