Excluding Closed Events with [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] shortcode

I’m using the [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] shortcode and trying to include closed events – specifically events that have not yet occurred, but are passed the registration end date. Looking through event_list.php, it looks like the ‘exclude_closed_events’ defaults to the string “false” (not a boolean) meaning closed events should be appearing, but it doesn’t seem to be honoring this.

I have a CLOSED event with a start date of October 17, 2015, but I can’t get it to appear using the shortcode attributes. The only way I’ve managed to get it to appear is if I manually change allow_override to 1 directly on the $default_attributes array, but that also includes deleted events.

I’m using EE version 3.1.37

Thanks in advance for the help!
