This is our first website using Event Espresso. We have had no problems creating the events. When we press “view event,” however, we get sent to our home page with no event displaying. HUGE problem to say the least. lol. Does anyone have words of wisdom for us? The website is staging.southcobbarts.com.

P.S. We had Modern Calendar in our site prior and I’m thinking that is the reason we are having a hard time displaying the Events (it would display on the /events/ directory in the site.

Hi there,

The website is staging.southcobbarts.com.

For me that domain does not resolve, is that the correct address?

P.S. We had Modern Calendar in our site prior and I’m thinking that is the reason we are having a hard time displaying the Events (it would display on the /events/ directory in the site.

Is Modern Calendar now disabled on the site? If so have you flushed your permalinks? Go to Settings -> Permalinks. Make no changes and just save. then try viewing an event, does it work?

Hi, Tony! Yes…you are right. The domain name is staging.southcobbarts.ORG. Duh. So sorry. We did disable modern events calendar…I will try flushing the permalinks…

Yay! It worked. It’s not displaying any images or anything yet, but we will work from here. Thank you so much…I truly appreciate your help.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think would happen if we turn on Modern Calendar back on after we have our whole event espresso configured? The reason I ask is this…I really like the way it displays the events in a carousel and we had planned on having that front and center on our home page. Maybe you know what we need from an event espresso shortcode to create something beautiful in its place? If not, I’m thinking of activating Modern Event Calendar to handle that portion. Of course, plug in compatibility is always an issue. Can you let me know your thoughts? Thanks, in advance, for your help.

It’s not displaying any images or anything yet, but we will work from here.

The default /events/ output from Event Espresso is a post archive (not a page), so it depends on what your theme outputs for archives if you see the feature image there.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think would happen if we turn on Modern Calendar back on after we have our whole event espresso configured?

It depends if Modern Calendar is using the same slug as Event Espresso, if they both try to use /events/ then they will conflict and you’ll get which ever plugin registers their slug last will output the content.

EE has an option to change the events slug within the settings.

Event Espresso -> Events -> Tempaltes -> Events slug

Change that to something other than ‘events’ and EE will use that, which should allow both to work, but would need to be tested.

The reason I ask is this…I really like the way it displays the events in a carousel and we had planned on having that front and center on our home page.

It’s unlikely that plugin will display events from EE if that’s what you are trying to do?

That is too funny Tony! We were just talking about that a few seconds ago and I checked on here to see what your response what…Well how about that! Thank you…that is what I was thinking…if we made one event and the other event1 it probably would work. But we will see what espresso’s capabilities is for displaying upcoming events in a carousel format before being foolish to try to get two plugs to coincide… 🙂

EE currently doesn’t have any kind of ‘carousel’ output so to do that will require custom development, either to create your own output or pull the EE events out them using another plugin.
